In Room 13 we love to read lots of different picture books and are in the middle of reading 'The Giraffe, the Pelly and Me' by Roald Dahl.
Today TT decided that he wanted to read 'The Gruffalo' by Julia Donaldson to the class, so along with RT and RW they shared the reading of this wonderful picture book that we love to read in class. Well done boys, you did a great job! Ka pai!

Synonyms and Cinnamon
Room 13 have been learning to use synonyms in our writing so we decided to do some baking and made some cinnamon scroll biscuits. Firstly we got some Short Sweet Pastry and then we put melted butter on the pastry then we mixed some sugar and cinnamon together and sprinkled it on the pastry. Then we rolled the pastry up and cut it into skinny slices. Then we put on a baking tray and cooked before we sat down and ate them all.

Day 170 at School
Friday 14th November was Day 170 at School so the Junior Syndicate all got together and made 170 darts and paper aeroplanes and flew them on the bottom field. We had so much fun flying our darts and trying to get them in the targets, then after lunch we all participated in our Skip Rope for Heart afternoon.
Here's a short video clip of us having fun launching our darts on the bottom field.

For Day 150 we made 150 snowflakes and then hung them up in our classroom here are some photos of some of our snowflakes.
Last Friday it was Day 160 at School so on Monday 3rd November we celebrated by covering the Leader of the Day in fluro polka dots - there was lots of laughter happening in class as we stuck our stickers on H.

It was Day 160 so we put spots on H because H was the Leader of the Day. It looks like she has chicken pox - Janayah
For Day 160 the Leader was H and she was covered in polka dots. Everybody was laughing! I put eight pink stickers on her. H was laughing too. When I was putting stickers on her it made me think about what she was going to look like. H had green and orange and pink polka dots all over! - Taryn
On Monday we put stickers on H. I was laughing and we took photos of her. It looked like she had chicken pox - Mya

Week 6 Term 2 - Letter Vv
For Week 6 this term, we have been looking at the Letter Vv and have had lots of fun creating our very own volcanic explosions. We have looked briefly at what the difference between an active volcano, a dormant volcano and one that is extinct.
On Monday Ms Knighton did some experiments with us using baking soda, vinegar, food colouring, a bottle of Diet-Coke and mentos, then on Friday when she took our class again we did them again. The one with the baking soda and vinegar we got to do by ourselves - if you go to the 'Letter of the Week' tab in a couple of days you will some photos of what we did, but until then check out the video clips we did of our experiments. We had so much fun!!!

Wellington Zoo
On Wednesday 21st May the whole of the Junior Syndicate visited Wellington Zoo - we had so much fun!!! We got to see lots of animals and birds that are endangered and some that aren't. We listened to the zookeepers tell us some special facts about the animals they look after and how we can help them to protect them so that they don't become extinct.
Dental Hygiene
On Tuesday 20th May the Junior Syndicate started our Tuesday afternoon rotations. Room 13 were working in their own classroom looking at 'Dental Hygiene'. We talked about the parts of a tooth and how to clean our teeth properly.
We checked to see that we had brushed our teeth properly!
We also talked about the things that we eat and drink and how they can cause tooth decay - we learnt that even the natural sugar in oranges and apples can cause decay. We also took a can of coke and measured out how many teaspoons of sugar there are in a can. We guessed two, three, maybe four but we were shocked when we learnt how many there are!
Did you know there are 9 teaspoons of sugar in a 333ml can of coca-cola!

Class Pets
In Room 13 we have had lots of creepy critters and creatures sharing our classroom with us. We have had heaps of caterpillars and monarch butterflies hatching since we started school in February. At the moment we have three new caterpillars so we will let you know what happens over the next few weeks - they're not normal still around at this time of the year so we'll have to wait and see.
We also have three frogs and a tadpole that's seems to be taking forever to make the change from a tadpole into a frog. We discovered that a dragonfly only goes through part of the metamorphosis process (it's called an incomplete metamorphosis) whereas a butterfly and a frog goes through a complete metamorphosis.
This year in our class we are looking after Mrs Cook's axolotl called 'Smitty'. Don't stick you finger in the tank you might loose it!!!
