Pukeahu
Today we went to Pukeahu to visit the War Memorial and to see the exhibition. We learnt lots and asked some tricky questions about World War 1 and what it was like. Here are a couple of photos (if you click on the INQUIRY tab you can see more).
Week 5 - Contraction Surgery
Last week in class we all became surgeons and put on our masks and surgical gloves and operated on some contractions using a scalpel (pair of scissors). Then we taped them back together again - this week (Week 6) we have been working on being 'Contraction Detectives' when we are reading and to practice using contractions in our writing. Thanks to the 'First Grade parade' blog for this cool activity - we had so much fun doing this!
Syndicate Rotations and Police Dog
On Friday 15th May we had a really busy day in the Junior Syndicate. In the morning we had rotations where we were put into eight different groups and we visited different teachers where we did things like build trenches, making stretchers, making poppy bookmarks, army hats and poppy artwork.
Then after play we had a visit from a police dog handler and his dog. C was luck enough to be chosen to give the dog some commands that the dog followed. Officer J helped out by using hand gestures to get I to follow C's commands.

Cross Country Run
Running up the back path was hard work but we all managed to persevere and complete the race. We were so proud of ourselves for finishing the run.
Olivia came 1st in the Year 2 Girls race and Charlie came in 3rd in the Year 2 Boys race. Well done everyone!
